Marilyn John


Marilyn was born in Shelby and grew up in northern Richland County.  Marilyn and her husband, Kevin, have been married since 1995 and have two children.  They attend Crossroads Community Church in Mansfield.

After graduating from Plymouth High School, Marilyn John attended North Central State College earning an Associate’s Degree in Business Management. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Marketing and a Masters of Business Administration from Ashland University.

Prior Employment
While working on her MBA, she worked as a Commercial Lines Underwriter at the Shelby Insurance Company, later becoming the Executive Director of the Shelby Senior Center.

Public Service
In 2009, Marilyn was elected Mayor of the City of Shelby serving until her election as a Richland County Commissioner in 2015.

Goals as Commissioner
As an elected official, Marilyn has developed and maintained conservative fiscal policy for Richland County, worked with the economic development entities on job creation and workforce development, and partnered with OSU-Mansfield and North Central State College to help area junior high students develop strong leadership skills and explore career opportunities through a program she founded, LeaderRichland,
