Special Events

Rock and Fossil Day
Rock and Fossil Day takes place the second Saturday in May of each year. This event is sponsored by the Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society and hosts many vendors and special programs by local rock and mineral experts. The day includes adult and kid friendly programs and displays, and provides opportunities for identifying and purchasing gems, rocks, and fossils.

Mohican Wildlife Weekend
Mohican Wildlife Weekend is an annual event highlighting the Greater Mohican Area located in Ohio’s Ashland and Richland Counties. Special programs feature the area’s rich heritage, abundant wildlife, vast recreation opportunities, and diverse natural resources. This event is for those who love the outdoors to discover what the area has to offer, share their experience with others, and return again throughout the year.

Richland County Park District is just one of the many organizations that participate in MWW. For up to date information, participating organizations, and programs, visit the Mohican Wildlife Weekend website

This is a huge weekend for natural history in the Mohican area. If you are interested in volunteering to help with an RCPD program, call the nature center at (419) 884-3764.

Pollinator Festival

Our Pollinator Festival is fun way to enjoy and learn about the birds, bees, beetles, and other animals that give us the plants we so enjoy! The weekend offers family friendly programs, free pollinator goodies, and many vendors including native plant sellers who can help you turn your own garden into a pollinator haven.

Pollinator Festival takes place every year on the last weekend in July.  For updates and details on this event, and others, follow Richland County Park District on Facebook.

Ohio Reptile and Amphibian Festival
This is a one day, program packed event that happens annually on the second or third Saturday in July at Gorman Nature Center. Program descriptions are posted on the Richland County Park District Facebook page within a couple weeks of the event.
